Who We Are The BackCountry is an independent ski, bike, and outdoor gear shop located in Truckee, California. With 10 years prior bike shop experience, Mike moved to Tahoe City in 1992, and opened the shop in 1994. Following his passion for mountain biking, hiking and backcountry skiing, he realized he was in the right place. Bike – We have a great selection of bikes for sale to match riders of any skill level or budget. We carry Norco, Yeti, Kona, Pivot, Scott, Mondraker, Transition and Cleary. We stock huge and keep the bike showroom open year round. Our professional bicycle mechanics will help you form the best plan to rebuild your old bike, or they will build you your new dream bike. Our staff ride A LOT, we know the trails, and we love helping people get to their next level in their riding. Helping you get to the next level may mean coaching you on technique in the parking lot, or it could be lessons on trail side bike repair. When possible, we enjoy helping improve your bike for free in the parking lot – if it is a bigger job, drop your bike off with our team and we will get it fixed with fast turn around. Our customers may stop by our store for our convenient location, the proximity to great trails and bike paths, or because we carry top brand bikes, but they return for the high quality of customer service. Ski, Splitboard & Snowboard – In the winter, our passion is backcountry Skiing (Alpine Touring and Telemark) and Splitboarding. Our staff skis both backcountry and the resort, and we understand the need for equipment that works well in both places . After 29 years, we know the gear worth looking at. We experiment with every brand so you won’t have to be a test victim. We won’t sell you gear you don’t need either. Our nearby sister shop in Squaw Valley – Olympic Valley Ski & Bike has the most popular ski resort equipment for sale and in demo. We have machine base tuning at this location and can transfer back and forth daily for you. Our techs are the real deal. They love what they do and aim to impress. Climb – We can see Donner Summit from our office windows. World class quality crags and cliffs surround the North Tahoe/Truckee area just like the mountain bike trails.
